DAY 3: Private full day personal guided tour of the Castle of Versailles Palace and Gardens

The Palace of Versailles is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the greatest achievements in French 17th century architecture. Louis XIII’s hunting pavilion was transformed and extended by his son, Louis XIV, when he installed the court and government there in 1682. Succeeding kings continued to embellish the palace up until the French Revolution.

In an attempt to gain a brief respite from courtly etiquette, the kings of Versailles built themselves more intimate spaces close to the main palace. Adjoining the Petit Parc, the estate of Trianon is home to the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon palaces, as well as the Queen’s Hamlet and a variety of ornamental gardens.

After the tour, your guide will drop you off in Paris or back to your hotel.

From Francis I (the castle was his favorite residence) to Napoleon III, each sovereign left a unique mark on the structure and its grounds.
Napoleon named it “La maison des Siècles – The House of Ages, true home of Kings” – as so many kings, a pope and other sovreigns resided there.

Return through the forest and stop at the charming village of Barbizon which inspired landscape painters such as Corot and Millet.

After the tour, your guide will drop you off in Paris or back to your hotel.
