Friday – Arrival transfer and check-in at the Hotel

Your week stay in Aix en Provence will begin with a transfer from Aix-en-Provence TGV station to your 3*** hotel located in the heart of the city. The remainder of your day will be on your own to begin discovering the wonders of the city. Aix is a vibrant place that you’ll enjoy exploring.

Saturday – Walking tour in Aix en Provence

Then you will meet your guide in Aix-en-Provence tourism office to leave for a guided two hour walking tour. Since this city has so many treasures, you won’t want to miss any of its beautiful landmarks. During the stroll, you will discover its hidden gems.  You will learn about its prestigious past, its phenomenal architecture, its heritage, and its monuments while listening to some surprising anecdotes as you walk in the steps of Cézanne who is most assuredly Aix-en-Provence’s most famous resident.

You will have the afternoon at leisure.

Sunday – Luberon villages

After breakfast at your hotel, you will meet your driver guide at the Aix-en-Provence tourism office. From there, you’ll  be off to discover the market of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and the Lubéron villages. The exceptional hilltop village of Gordes, the colorful village of Roussillon, and the picture perfect provençal village of Bonnieux are jewels you’ll visit during this full day tour. Then. a photo stop at the Renaissance Castle in Lourmarin wraps up the day before you return “home” to Aix.

Monday – Cassis and Camargue

Morning begins with your breakfast at the hotel.

Then you will meet your driver guide at the Aix-en-Provence tourism office to depart for a morning visit to Cassis, a charming fishing port famous for the Calanques (fjord-like cliffs) on the Mediterranean sea.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Camargue. This unique part of Provence is like no other area of France. It is a wild and unspoiled area where horses and bulls roam free, where French cowboys live, and flamingos dot the flatlands. At the tip of the Camargue is the village of Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. With its beaches and its fortified church housing the statue of St Sara, the town is a major part of France’s gypsy cultural tradition.

Tuesday – Day at leisure in Aix en Provence

Tuesday morning is market day, so you’ll want to soak up this fantastic experience in the morning.  It closes at 12:30. The market is unbelievable and you’ll find fabulous linens, beautiful provençal pottery, soaps, herbes de Provence, fresh fruit and vegetables (pick some up for your own enjoyment!), and a selection of most everything under the rainbow. Truly, the French market is an intricate feature of every town in the country and it’s a delight to observe the interaction of the merchants with the shoppers.  You will love your morning!

In the afternoon, enjoy Aix-en-Provence on your own to discover the Cours Mirabeau, the fountains, the private mansions, Saint Sauveur Cathedral, and the sites frequented by the painter Paul Cézanne. Don’t forget to taste the speciality of the town, the Calissons candy!

Les Baux de Provence

Begin with your breakfast at the hotel before you meet your driver guide at the Aix-en-Provence tourism office for a full day tour beginning with a visit to the provençal market of Saint-Rémy-de Provence.

Next stop will be in Les Baux de Provence, a medieval village perched on a rocky spur in the heart of the Alpilles mountain range. This pristine village has a breath-taking setting and abounds in tiny streets with many treasures to be found!

Your day will then take you on a walking tour in Arles in the footsteps of the painter Vincent Van Gogh. Arles is also famous for its architectural heritage dating from the Roman times !

Thursday – Provence wines

After you enjoy breakfast at your hotel, you will meet your driver guide at the Aix-en-Provence tourism office and enjoy a half-day tour to Mont Sainte-Victoire, a mountain that so inspired Paul Cézanne that he painted it more than 60 times. It’s easy to understand why he did this because it takes on a totally different appearance as the amazing lighting in Provence changes.

As you drive around the mountain, you’ll visit two wineries and sample the full-bodied reds and the subtle rosés wines from the AOC Côtes de Provence Sainte Victoire (AOC stands for Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée and signifies that it has been certified by the government with a very special label for certain French products such as wines, cheeses, butters, and other agricultural products).

Friday – Transfer and check-out of Hotel

Breakfast at the hotel and time to leave.

You will have a transfer back to the TGV station in Aix en Provence and likely be dreaming of your next return to Provence!
