Graves and Sauternes Private Wine Tour SGT

Graves Wines from Bordeau Region

Book a private tour from Bordeaux to taste Sauternes and Graves wines. Beginning with a pickup from your Bordeaux hotel or cruise ship docked in Bordeaux, you'll be off with your driver guide.

The Graves (name is derived from the gravelly soil) region is situated on the left bank of the Garonne River southeast of Bordeaux. In the Graves region, three wine types are produced -- reds, dry whites, and sweet wines.

Sauternes is renowned for its sweet white wine that is a mix of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes as well as Botrytis Cinerea, a bacteria known as "noble rot". This bacteria combines with the sugar of the grape to give an astonishing complexity and richness.

During the 8 hour touring day, you'll visit and taste a Pessac-Léognan classified growth. The Pessac-Léognan region is closest to Bordeaux and produces some of the area's most expesnive wines. It has a separate AOC of its own called Pessac-Léognan and the rest of the region has a Graves appellation (and the wines aren't as valued) and visit and taste a Sauternes growth.  In the afternoon, you'll visit and taste another classified growth of Sauternes or Graves before returning to Bordeaux. What a fantastic experience to taste these very special wines.
