Souvenir Shopping in Paris
We all want a souvenir of Paris. (In fact, the verb "souvenir" means "to remember" in French). Where you'll shop depends upon what you're looking to buy and the amount you wish to spend. Here are some ideas to get you started! The Reunion des musees nationaux can be found in most museums in Paris (such as the Louvre, the Orsay, the Pompidou Center, etc.). These are boutiques with books, posters, jewelry, postcards, scarves, reproductions, and many exclusive reproductions. Perhaps you're searching for a gift related to cinema, opera, or science. Check out the bookshop of the Cinematheque francaise in Bercy or the boutique of the Comedie-Francaise, or the boutique at the Opera Garnier.
If you're in search of trendy souvenirs that will reflect the main fashion designs and trends in Paris, Colette would be a great place to visit at 213 rue Saint Honore in the 1st arrondissement. For the typical souvenirs of Paris such as t-shirts and Eiffel Towers, there's a huge selection of these shops along the rue Rivoli across from the Louvre.
Another very Parisian souvenir shopping experience can be in a bouquiniste. The concept of the bouquiniste has existed in Paris for more than 200 years, so it's fun to shop in these places that line the Seine River and whose vendors sell all sorts of postcards, trinkets of Paris, vintage posters of Paris, books about Paris, and other sundry items. In Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, the two great Parisian department stores, you'll find items such as books about Paris, miniatures of Paris monuments, purses, T-shirts, glasses, pencils, and many items perfect for children.
Up at Montmartre, you can pickup up a portrait or painting from an artist who's painting right before you. In the Moulin Rouge shop, you can buy posters, jewelry, and other fashion objects related to the Moulin Rouge. Food is a wonderful souvenir of your trip to Paris and do visit Fauchon on Place de la Madeleine to find its famous macaroons, biscuits, teas, and more all in gift boxes or in packed to order for you. La Cure Gourmande has five shops in Paris and this is a colorfully quaint store with pretty packaging of cookies and chocolates which travel well.
