Versailles GardensThis Versailles minivan tour will start with a hotel pickup at 8:15 AM. Versailles is a very lovely Paris suburb Southwest of Paris and the Chateau de Versailles dominates the town.

The Palace of Versailles was the capital of the kingdom of France for over a century from 1682 to 1789 (when the French Revolution began) and as such holds an amazing amount of history with the Royal courts of King Louis XIII, his son Louis XIV, the "Sun King", Louis XV, and Louis XVI. Stripped of its furniture and ornaments during the French Revolution, it was abandoned until 1830 with King Louis-Philippe transformed it into a National Museum.

Versailles King's apartmentYour guide will lead you to a the "Petit Appartement du Roi" that is away from the crowds of Versailles. This group of rooms were used by Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI and are located in the oldest part of the palace. The bedchamber of Louis XV, the dressing room of Louis XVI, the clock room that received the clock in 1754, the Cabinet des Chiens where Louis XV's dogs slept will be of great interest in the tour. The dining room where Louis XV hosted grandiose dinners to lords and ladies, the King's interior cabinet or the "corner room" has some beautiful woodwork, the cabinet des depeches has bronze statues and holds secrets from the kings, and  the gold-plate room has much history -- of particular note is that young Mozart played his harpsichord there before the Royal family. The bath chamber is decorated with engravings, medaillions and carvings of special note and the Library of Louis XVI, the porcelain dining room, and the games room of Louis XVI are of added interest.

Lunch is included in the tour price and then your afternoon will include free time to walk the gardens of Versailles. Andre Le Notre was the garden architect and the vast expanse of these gardens is impressive. You will have some free time to explore the gardens before returning to Paris.
